A personal collection and
observations on Art Glass

Protecting Your Collectables

If you are a collector of arts and crafts then you will know that these objects have more than just financial value. Any collector becomes proud of his or her acquisitions. They are a source of pleasure and education; a way to learn about art and history. Each piece often holds its own special value, attached to a particular time and place and with its own set of memories. And as a whole, a collection of antique crockery, miniature oil paintings, model trains or the finest examples of British glassware is something of which many people are proud to own and display.

If you have a particularly vast collection of such objects, it is certainly worthwhile keeping an accurate record of exactly what you have in your stocks. Keeping track of your accounts in this way - making a note of what you bought and when, how much you paid for it and what you believe to be its true value, will be of use should anything ever go missing or should you need to make an insurance claim.

When it comes to obtaining adequate insurance for your collection, it is worthwhile shopping around and being specific in the information you give in order to get an accurate quote. You’re likely to find the best insurance deals online, for example, Co-operative Insurance offer 1/3 off your contents premium when you take out combined home insurance with them online.

However, if you want to be sure that you are covered for the full value of your collections, it is worth making a phone call in order to specify this as named items on your policy. This way, should anything be stolen or damaged in a fire or flood, you can rest assured that you will be reimbursed for your financial losses at least.

The internet has many other uses for collectors, though. Not only may it be used to source out new pieces and valuable additions to your current stock, it also allows you access to merchant’s websites, to expert information on the fluctuating value of art and antiques and updates on all the most recent developments in the kinds of arts and crafts that most interest you.
